First day in Puno, Peru

The bus from Copacabana left yesterday at 1330. We stopped at the border where we had to stamp out of Bolivia, walk 300m and then stamp into Peru. The immigration was done in 15 minutes, and we now have a 90 days visa for Peru. This is not our first visit to Peru, but the first legal one. We are now 7 hours before Austria/Norway.

The difference struck as as soon as we walked through the streets of Puno. Peru is much more developed. Their shops are better stocked, but we feel a bit more unsafe on the other hand. We guard our pockets more here in Puno. Luckily other travellers tell us that Puno is quite touristy, and not a standard for Peru. Eirik has never gotten more complaints about dirty shoes either, and they do not understand that we actually want to look shabby. No point explaining them about special treatment for gore-tex shoes either.

You can get a 3 course meal for 1 Euro here, but these places are probably not the best places to go right after being food poisoned. Today is sunday, and most of the shops are closed. The only things we need now is a map for the area up to Cusco and sportstape for our feet (which are the more difficult things to get). If we are unsuccessful tomorrow, we just have to live without the map. You can get far with a compass (at least the right direction).

We are trying to fatten up during our stay in cities. Unfortunately, Anita is still not 100% well, and has lost weight instead of gaining it. We are working on it.

Fuer alle zuhause in Aussee: Trinkt beim Bierzelt eins fuer mich.
