5th day in La Paz

We are leaving La Paz for the great unknown tomorrow. Everything so far has been comfortable and safe, but we are now entering a new and exciting phase of our trip. Our first goal is Lake Titicaca before we enter Peru. We will bring 5-6 litres of water in case the rivers are all dried up. Our brilliant maps from the 50-60´s show a lot of communities along the paths (that might well be roads 60 years later), and they have to get water from somewhere too! It might take us a week to get there, so please do not expect too much news from us before our arrival at Copacabana (although we will try to update the blog with our satellite telephone).

The street markets have supplied us with oats, sugar, soup, tomatoes, quinoa (local miracle grain), rope, matches, raisins, pecans, coca leaves and a couple of really cool hats.

Our planned route will follow local community paths. You will find a rough map of our route here. We are currently imagining two alternative routes to Copacabana: One across the lake, and one around it. Both are shown in the map.

Anita at lunch

Eirik overlooking the Illumani

The city view

A woman and her child (who loved to play with Anitas sunglasses)

Market place with fresh herbs

The backpack repair man saving our day!

Anita is helping the guy at the military geografical institute to fold our maps.

A woman selling juice at Plaza San Francisco

Anita is doing the laundry. You can tell from the colour of the water how dirty our clothes were. A piece of ducktape is working as the plug that was missing.

A sales woman is having her short siesta (well deserved after waking up at 5 am)

Anita indulging a warm chocolate cake

Eirik with his new shiny hat

Both of us outside our room
