Day -7: Preparations

My house is a mess, and Dance with a stranger is playing in the background. A kitchen scale is placed on the dining table. There are items for our trip spread out on the one part of the floor, and cardboard boxes for moving out on the other part.

Some newly measured items:
  • 1 ea sleeping bag: 1732g (can I defend getting a fourth sleeping bag to cut 500g????)
  • 1 ea carry mat: 315g
  • 1 ea backpack: 3220g

The total weight of my backpack is now 21,46kg with empty fuel bottles, no water, no food and no fun. Can I take that to an elevation of 4000m? Pilots need extra oxygen at an alitute >3600m.

I can skip the following:

  • Harmonika: 276g (not worth it)
  • Extra warm pullover: 302g (hmmmm.....)
  • Water filter: 750g (No point carrying 750g less if you are sick)
  • Fishing rod w/equip: 429g (But will then have to carry more food instead)
  • 1 ea ducktape: 88g (NEVER go hiking without Ducktape!!!)

I have never been a gram-fanatic, but every gram counts when you have to carry the backpack for 4 months. I have never started the process of packing more than 1 day before departure either.

EXCITING!
